1. Closed-Concept Layouts
Open concept homes are a scam. Think about it! Their popularity rose with HGTV shows that required a film crew in your living room. Shows where the “client” was on a budget and everything needed to be perfect within a ridiculous time frame. The solution? Less walls. And it’s been brilliant for builders who’ve spent the last 20 years pricing an arm and leg for a modern home that cost them a fraction of what it would’ve been to construct a home with a hair of character.
Let’s demand a little privacy in 2025. A closed-concept layout offers an escape from the living room your tots just destroyed, reprieve from the smell of onions you cut up for sandwiches, an acoustically sound space, and opportunity to personalize defined zones. Time to get our money’s worth.
2. Artful lighting
Light fixtures transforms a space with light alone, but having a quality piece at the right scale that you adore the look of… hung just so… that’s art. And sources for great light fixtures are endless (I love Etsy European vendors for a good vintage find).
Table lamps too!
3. Chic Showers
It’s been trending to create entire wellness or selfcare spaces within a home. Love that for everyone who can dedicate space to a cold plunge, sauna, red light room, etc. But if you’re like me and not quite there square footage wise, how about a chic shower? The OG self care space has always been the bathroom where we shave, apply expensive creams, listen to podcasts, or give ourselves (admittedly out loud) pep talks before a big day.
Powder rooms and kid bathrooms are an outlet for color and crazy patterned walls, but I prefer to keep the primary bathroom serene and focused on materials.
take advantage of the space you have: dim the lights, stick with neutral and natural, lay a little rug, hang a piece of art, think tonally, invest in plush towels, ceramic tiles, and a small stool beside the tub.
Voilà. Très chic!
